The objective of this work party is to cover the trails with debris that are between the power lines and May creek road, including back door trail and all trails leading off of it. There are quite a few small trails that intersect in that area
What would be great is to be able to transplant native vegetation into the trails that enter onto May creek road to facilitate growth
There will be more hands on work just pulling branches across the trail for the length of them. A few rigs with winches and possibly some ATVs with winches for the tighter trails that rigs wont fit down. Shovels, trimmers/ loppers would be great. A few chainsaws to cut up the bigger stuff into manageable size. Remember anyone that is going to run a saw, Bring all the safety gear that is required
I am trying to get a map to show the location for those that dont know the area

NoWires, could you also maybe start you plant starts (What you brought up at the RTW Meeting) this day if you end up with extra people like the last work party?
I will not make this work party as I will be on one of the Beaches of Kauai or up in the hills on a 4x4 road/trail if I can locate them. :D

from my discussions with david and stan this work party is going to be very basic and fairly small,
They are looking for people to come out who are willing to take leadership roles in future work parties, david want to go over with the folks that come out what is going to be the criteria of the work in the future, aka what the dnr expect the former trails to look like after work parties and trail restoration projects.

Volunteer leaders needed
Are you interested in taking a leadership role on restoration, construction and maintenance projects at Reiter Foothills Forest? The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) would like to train 10 to 20 individuals to serve as volunteer group leaders for our upcoming work parties, which will take place on the first Saturday and the third Sunday of each month. We are offering training from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., March 20 at the Reiter gravel pit parking area.
As a volunteer leader, you will:
Learn new skills and techniques.
Gain leadership experience.
Gain work experience. (Volunteer time counts hour for hour on state, county, and municipal job applications.)
Work, network, and socialize with like-minded individuals.
During work parties, volunteer group leaders will help direct volunteers, provide instruction on proper procedures, work alongside other volunteers, and assist DNR staff as needed.
The March 20 training will include:
Volunteer group leader responsibilities.
Communication protocols and ethics for group leaders.
Safety in the field.
Tracking and documenting volunteer efforts and work progress.
Field orientation.
This leadership orientation training is designed for those interested in overseeing volunteers who will be helping with restoration, construction and maintenance projects.
To sign up for the March 20 group leader training, contact David Way, 360-854-2830 or david.way@dnr.wa.gov and provide your name, e-mail address, and phone number.

We had another successful field day on Saturday, February 27. We explored the possibilities for non-motorized trails and trailheads and talked with a State Parks ranger about linking trails with Wallace Falls State Park. Read more on our Blog at: http://bit.ly/a4l4l8
Focus Group to meet later this month
The first meeting of DNRs Reiter Foothills Focus Group will be in late March. We are looking for a diverse group of people to participate in monthly meetings with DNR staff.
