I just spoke to David Way and we are on for a work party on the 17th.
This is all restoration work for repairing damage done to the natural habitat. We will need many Hands/Bodies for help and misc hand tools, shovels, rakes etc.
We will also need chainsaws for cutting up logs and placing them in strategic places. Please let me know if you are willing to come out and lend a hand so David and I can get a head count, and figure out where we are going to place people, with what tools they are able to supply.
Thanks
Rick
I replied on NNW, dont know if you want a double post.
I will have a shovel, hammer and a winch.
WHat else are you looking for?

Have any other user groups been notified other than the post on NWW?
*IF* RTW wants to be overall stewards of the Reiter Foothills ORV and not just the wheelers, it might be nice to reach out and not leave the other groups out of the work parties.

If the plan is to drop over the powerline wall to get debris, May I suggest a safety harness and rig with a winch for that part. I can probably borrow one if nobody else has one to bring. We need to remember to keep these work parties safe so David doesn't get in trouble for an accident on his watch.

Which wall?
Per David's January 2010 thread : (1. There is a dumped canopy camper under the power lines on the very steep hill where they head down towards Index. I will need at least 2 rigs with winches and some agile people who want to scale down the hill to help pick up the trash with me.)
This is if you drive in on Deer Flats there is a gate and road to go up to the right before the gravel pit area. It is where the powerlines drop over the eastside of that ridge. It's VERY steep and has a cross/memorial from someone who died up there.

There've been numerous work parties in the past retrieving cars and such from that area.

Indeed. There is now a gate at the Deer Flats road just in a few hundred feet from Reiter Rd so hopefully that can put *some* of this to an end.

I'm kind of confused by all of this as on another board there is only talk of doing restoration work which will involve hand/garden tools, chainsaws, etc...
Are we doing recovery/cleanup instead of restoration work or both?
Just trying to plan on bringing the right tools for the job.

Hello RTW!
I would like to get a work party set on the calendar for the month of January. There are a couple things that I would like to accomplish:
1. There is a dumped canopy camper under the power lines on the very steep hill where they head down towards Index. I will need at least 2 rigs with winches and some agile people who want to scale down the hill to help pick up the trash with me.
2. The first big wave of restoration work is looking like it will begin soon. We are going to be placing straw bails, straw blankets, straw waddles and other erosion control stuff at the stream crossings. The second wave will be later this winter in planting native species in those stream crossings. I anticipate being ready by January 17th with supplies to begin this work.
On another note, I believe we will be having a public workshop in the Monroe area on January 13th. This meeting will be to get everybody up to speed on our restoration plans, update on trail planning and construction, and get people scheduled for work parties. I know that this is the date of your January RTW meeting, but that is how it ended up Sorry!
We will be sending out an invitation email soon regarding this meeting. Please stay tuned.
I hope I have more to share with you all soon!
Thanks,
David Way

Beware of the safety issue in the high power wires low overhead at this point.

ok here is the basic plan. doing mostly restoration work but also trying to get that camper out of there as well
This is what I think we need. We can easily put 30-40 people to work. I can’t find the picture of the camper, but I think we can winch it up in one piece and then cut it to pieces. I will bring some big bags that we can throw the trash into and winch up the hill. Thanks!
January 17th Reiter Work Party - Meet at the Main Gravel Parking Area at 0930
BPA powerline (5-10 people) Retrieving dumped camper and cutting into pieces
Need: 1-2 sawsalls, 2 rigs with winches
Reiter Pond (2-3 people) Restoration
Need: tractor with front end loader, rakes, sledge hammer, Small 4x4 truck to haul wood chips?
Upper Staging Area (10-20 people) Hauling wood chips to stream crossing, Restoration of crossing, Blocking bottom of AA-Hill
*
Need: tractor with front end loader, rakes, chainsaws, several higher clearance trucks to haul wood chips to the stream crossing on “4W250 Hillside Roadgrade Trail” on the RTW trail map, 2 rigs with winches
Trail of Doom (5-10 people) Obliterating/Restoration of trail with woody debris
Need: 2 winches. chainsaws, muscles
we already have the rigs with winches lined up but if your dd happens to have a winch it would not hurt to have more. there is no wheelin involved here just need winches.

Someone mentioned that we need a couple of sawzalls out there... Is someone bringing a generator out, or does someone have an inverter strong enough to run 'em (assuming the corded kind of saw)?
I've got a generator on wheels, but it's a heavy mofo. I can bring it out if we need it, along with some extension cords.

Someone from pnwriders said they would bring their small generator that they use for their tire warmers. I wouldn't bother bringing a big generator unless its convienent, but cords and sawzalls couldn't hurt to have extra of.
