Hello RTW!

I would like to get a work party set on the calendar for the month of January. There are a couple things that I would like to accomplish:

1. There is a dumped canopy camper under the power lines on the very steep hill where they head down towards Index. I will need at least 2 rigs with winches and some agile people who want to scale down the hill to help pick up the trash with me.

2. The first big wave of restoration work is looking like it will begin soon. We are going to be placing straw bails, straw blankets, straw waddles and other erosion control stuff at the stream crossings. The second wave will be later this winter in planting native species in those stream crossings. I anticipate being ready by January 17th with supplies to begin this work.

On another note, I believe we will be having a public workshop in the Monroe area on January 13th. This meeting will be to get everybody up to speed on our restoration plans, update on trail planning and construction, and get people scheduled for work parties. I know that this is the date of your January RTW meeting, but that is how it ended up:( Sorry!

We will be sending out an invitation email soon regarding this meeting. Please stay tuned.

I hope I have more to share with you all soon!

Thanks,

Hi All:

David, later in January would be better my schedule. Perhaps two work parties?

At this point in time, it looks like I should be able to come out and help, too.

Do we need anything other than a couple of pickups for getting the camper out, once it's dragged up to the road? I can drag my trailer out, if we need it.

How about any other equipment/tools?

I would love to join in! Don't have a winch on the truck, but will come and help pick up the trash from the camper.

Per the second objective David posted, if we are doing more of the straw waddle and stream work we will need manpower and not neccessarily capable rigs. It would help to have sledgehammers for pounding the wooden stakes. We had some mini-sledges last time that worked pretty good so if anyone has some bring them. Also helpfull to have shovels, picks, work gloves and warm clothes.

I plan on being there at this point.

I don't know why they don't use the mass email list that they have been sending the other updates from. It seems to me like David doesn't have the support and help that he needs from DNR. His counterpart at Tahuya for instance has a person for E&E that manages the Forest Watch people. He also has others who help him. David needs to be able to get word out about the work parties and other needs and he has been using us to do so. We try to spread the word as best we can. If every group had a person represented in RTW they could get the word back to each of their groups. When they create the Reiter ORV Advisory Commitee it will be that way and hopefully we would have a RTW representative who will keep everyone here updated.

My son and I were planning on joining as well - are we on? What time? Meet in the parking lot at Reiter? We don't have much in terms of supplies (a shovel, rake, and that's about it), but we're looking to help!

Yes, we are on for this Sunday the 17th at 9:30am. We will be meeting in the lower lot and split into several groups from there. Whatever you can bring will be fine. :D
