I have done a quick first read of the RTW Bylaws Kat gave me at the last meeting and I want to point out a few errors that should be corrected before they are approved.
1. First page, Article II, Section 2: "other private owners of government agencies" I think the word "of" was meant to be "or".
I would suggest the following change to the last two lines of this section: Snohomish County, Private Land Owners, and/or Other Government Agencies as related to Reiter Foothills Trails.
2. Second Page, Article III, Section 1: First paragraph is poorly written and should be redone to correct English grammar. No suggestion as it is not my Strong suit, but I know it needs work.
3. Second Page, Article III, Section 1, Second Paragraph: I would suggest changing to read as follows.
RTW Meetings are open to the Public, but votes are restricted to members only. To become a voting member you must.
(1) Attend not less then two meetings in a year;
(2) Request, complete and submit a Membership Application;
(3) Applications under the age of 18, must also provide a Signed Parental Consent Form;
(4) Have an Understanding or, and Tolerance of Multi-Use Recreation;
(5) Understand, Practice, and teach as needed "Tread Lightly/Leave No Trace" principles;
(6) Be a "Positive Steward" of causes in support of Reiter Foothills Trails and posses a willingness to get involved;
(7) Be willing to call 911 and report any and all illegal activity's witnessed in the Reiter Foothills Trails area;
4. Second Page, Article III, Section 2: Second sentence should start "Each" rather than "Every", and I think the entire Paragraph could be restructured to better English/Grammar, but again no suggestion on that part, but if needed I could work on it when I have more time.
5. Fourth Page, Article IV, Section 1, subsection C: First full paragraph on this page, the last sentence is not needed or should be changed to read "A Co-signer" in place of "the main signer". The treasurer by virtue of the office will automatically be a co-signer of any checks issued.
6. Fourth Page, Article IV, Section 5: Words "Board of Director" must be changed to read "Executive Officer" to be consistent with the rest of the document. This is the only place where Board of Director is used.
7. Last Page, Article IX, Section 2: I think the group needs to be more specific here and Rather then saying "a charity or organization" it should specify a ORV Group that is also a Non-Profit Org, such as WOW or some such.
Ok, I am long winded as you will learn if you have not already noticed, and this is just from a quick first read of the proposed bylaws. These do need more work.
Thanks for reading all this and it is not meant to demean anyone, just to try and help assure we have the best and clearest possible By-Laws to live by as an Org.
